And then there were 59

11 May

Where s Rahman

Someone has learned how to use the airbrush tool in Photoshop

Well, that didn’t take long.

Barely a week since the election and already the 60-strong Labour group on Newham council is down to 59.

Mohammed Muzibur Rahman, elected in Green Street East last Thursday, has been suspended by the party.

Trouble may have been brewing even before the vote. The party’s election leaflet (PDF) doesn’t mention him at all and he was airbrushed out of the photo of the Green Street East Labour Action Team on the cover (see above).

Cllr Rahman is the husband of former councillor Rohima Rahman, who was suspended back in 2015. She was briefly re-instated in April, long enough to be selected for Plaistow South, then re-suspended before the ink was even dry on the nomination papers.

The reason for Cllr Mohammed Muzibur Rahman’s suspension is not known.

Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose

Newham Labour has been needing a good clear out for years. Hopefully this is the start of it but if it were really effective the 59 would be reduced by a heck of a lot more. A good start would be the Councillors with multiple property portfolios who make the average Tory look like socialists!

When published– (2018-2022)Councillor declarations of interest —–and thereafter Landlord Licensing Register, will display information. Also for further info Rohima and her husband were on “Homes under the Hammer” on TV a while back . No Labour Party restrictions on Councillors being Landlords though. ….

Maybe better if this had been sorted out before the Election than after ??

My point Andrew is that maybe Labour should have a few more rules. The plain fact is there are a number of labour councillors over the years who have had multiple property portfolios, some of the property bought through the right to buy scheme, and have run some of those properties to a standard that was very poor. Many escaped sanction and criticism was stopped dead. If Newham Labour is to change its ways it has to be seen to act in a moral way. It is simply wrong to try and defend some of these very rich councillors as their conduct and attitude goes against every principle the Labour Party stands for.

If a Newham Councillor owns a property outside Newham, it will not appears on their register of interest. Many councillor don’t write they are landlords, they simply say ‘owner’ or something else.

‘and attitude goes against every principle the Labour Party stands for.’

What does the Labour party stand for?

Does it stand up to injustice?

Did the Labour party stand up when London City Airport wanted to expand? People like me are suffering everyday from aircraft noise. The airport was built in the wrong place. You can’t keep making an airport bigger and bigger in a residential area, next to schools and homes. They ignore the pain and suffering the airport causes. Where is the limit?

Politicians are working hard to make the greedy airport owners, even richer. Meaningless political such as for the ‘many and not the few’. These politicians are stamping on the weak and poor.

Here is a photos of Sadiq Kahn, Stephen Timms and Unmesh Desai…..

Their whole argument about airport creating jobs is BS. The airport employs about 500 people as for Westfield in Stratford which employs 20,000 people. Do we need to blight entire neighbourhoods for the sake of 500 jobs?. A new Tesco store will provide just as many jobs, without damage to the neighbourhood. Do the airline pilots who fly out of London City Airport live in Newham? How many airline pilots have we seen in the streets of Newham?

Sir Robin Wales has been pushed out, but the the new face of Labour Newham, rubbing shoulders with the same old politics of Sadiq Khan :-
      http://www.johnslabourblog.org/2018/05/london-newham-and-west-ham-labour.html

Did n’t these councillors tell Sadiq Khan his decision to back London City Airport was a wrong one?. Why would tell him anything? These politicians are in each other’s pockets.

Boris Johnson when Mayor of London, put a fighting fund of £500k to stop airport expansion. Boris was condemned by Stephen Timms MP and Sadiq Khan. As soon as Sadiq Khan was elected Mayor of London, he pulled the plug on this fund and let the airport win. Boris had nothing to gain to help residents.

What is the point of Sir Robin Wales cracking down on slum landlords. When Sir Robin himself has been guilty of turning my neighbourhood into a slum. At least the slum landlords, will get moved on, but the airport is here forever for generations to come.

We cant enjoy a walk in the park because of the noise and the air is foul of jet fuel. The Royal Docks with its greatwaterfront views was one of the few nice places in Newham. We even have a cable car, but it has been turned into a toilet and ruined, like everything in Newham.

Focus E15 mum, are getting great support for their housing situation. Where will they build all these new homes? Next to the airport, where the area is blighted by noise and pollution?

The area was never like this, but it has been ruined by Newham and Labour’s failure to protect his own people.

I was looking for something and discovered a Newham Council owned company is in liquidation.

Newham Council documents : Newco has been operating as a Direct Labour Organisation manufacturing a range of products including kitchen units and UPVC windows and doors. It is a supported Business with 60% of its staff being disabled thus providing employment and training for this protected group.

Historically Newco has supplied LBN with products for the ongoing refurbishment of Council housing stock and to meet the decent homes programme. It is recognised that this work is diminishing to such a level as to jeopardise the future of Newco and the continued employment of its staff unless new markets are found for its existing products and new products developed to diversify and strengthen its manufacturing base.

The products that Newco offer have a market outside of the Local Authority and changing its legal status to become a local authority trading company will allow these products to be marketed and sold to a wider range of customers.
