Further matters of interest

Cllr Sophia Naqvi posing with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn

What does Jeremy think about buy-to-let landlords?

Cllr Sophia Naqvi’s register of interests has been published and it reveals that she, like the leader of her political group, is a multi-property owning landlord.

In addition to the home they live in, Cllr Naqvi and her partner own a further five properties in Newham – two in her own name, two in her spouse’s and one jointly owned. No doubt a tax-efficient arrangement of assets.

The latest recruit to the Landlords Alliance is former councillor Idris Ibrahim, who will be one of the three candidates for Green Street West. As the final register of interests from his single previous term shows, he is very much a junior member – just the one extra house.

Sorry to spam on this post, but can anyone explain the bin changes due for June 2024? Do the council ever talk to the people? It feels like the council decides policy from an ivory tower.

Right now, on collection day, they take the bins and rarely put them back in the place they took them from, leaving it to the homeowner to put them back in place. I am unhappy about this. I have come home late from work at 10 pm to find the bin left in the middle of the front garden with the lid open and my front garden gate left open.  It’s a clear sign that no one is home and an invitation for burglars.

Sometimes, bins are missing, why can’t they put them back to the correct house?

I know some people might not want to tell their neighbours they are going on holiday, as they would know the home is empty, especially if word gets into the wrong hands. Now the council is asking us to bring our bins to the front of the property. This might be convenient for the council, but what’s the point? Most gardens in Newham are a modest size, unlike the larger front gardens on Romford Road.

The council has sent someone to put a tag on every bin. Why don’t they put a tag to explain how to use the bulky rubbish collection? Newham recycling bins are orange, and the original sticker labels are gone/faded away. Without any labelling, people will be using the wrong bin, while the green bins are the non-recyclable ones.

What do others think about this change?
