Yesterday I received a package through the door from Newham council containing information about a proposed extension to the local residents parking zone (RPZ).
This was a bit of a surprise to me and to others on Twitter, none of whom had heard anything about it. Some people living on streets directly affected hadn’t received the information pack.
Below are links to scans I have made of the documents:
- RPZ Cover letter
- RPZ questions and answers
- RPZ questionnaire
- RPZ map sheet A1
- RPZ map sheet A2
- RPZ map sheet B
There’s a ‘drop-in session’ at the Gate Library on Thursday 3 July from 4:30 to 7:30, but no other public meetings (that I’m aware of). The closing date for responses is 18 July 2014.
Clearly Newham Councillors need to raise more money for the pensions they have just voted for themselves and the Mayor. I am amazed that no-one, especially the local paper, has commented on this move. The costs to Newham fo this pension pot are not known but it flies in the face of Government policy (not always a bad thing) and the electorate was not told of the intention in the recent election. If this wereMPs voting themselves more ackers there would be uproar.
Another regressive alternative to Council Tax for filling Council coffers!
They are pushing this through, everyone I speak to say they don’t want this. I saw what they did in Eastham/Manor Park when it first came in a year or so later, they claimed they need to charge residents to administer the zone. Stealth Tax ! Once in you would not be able to remove it. It all goes to Robin Wales salary !
