Cllr Khan was once very close to the mayor
Boleyn councillor Obaid Khan has been suspended by the Labour party.
That makes three local councillors currently on the naughty step.
I haven’t seen the email that was sent to councillors about this, but I understand Cllr Khan’s suspension relates to two separate incidents.
One involves the way he allegedly spoke to a councillor from Barking & Dagenham at an event. The other was a bit of argy-bargy at the Boleyn by-election count where he squared up to Cllr Forhad Hussain. Unfortunately for Khan, this was witnessed by ‘the leadership’, who wasted no time in reporting the matter to higher powers.
One might reasonably ask why either of these ‘incidents’ justifies a councillor’s suspension, when similar events involving the mayor (with the Focus E15 mums), Cllr Ian Corbett (to a receptionist at East Ham town hall) and Cllr Ken Clark (to Cllr Noor at this year’s Newham Show) did not. The Mayor and Cllr Corbett were found guilty by the Standards Committee of breaching the code of conduct, but the Labour party did nothing to reprimand them. Calls to discipline Ken Clark have been ignored.
Quite perplexing.
Except that Obaid Khan was instrumental in thwarting the leadership’s plan to have Cllr Hanif Abdulmuhit’s wife, Aisha Siddiqah, selected as the party’s candidate in the Boleyn by-election. He also kicked up a fuss about the shenanigans that resulted in Femi Alese being elected chair of East Ham Labour party. And, to top it all off, he’s joined the pro-Corbyn ‘Momentum’ group. Sir Robin, you will remember, was one of the 4.5% that backed Liz Kendall for the leadership.
Revenge, as they say, is a dish best served cold.

We have all seriously had enough with the council of Newham. An absolute disgrace where it’s residents have little to no rights and now these councillors who were previously sucking up to Robins corrupt regime are now being ousted in gangster style public humiliation suspensions. I strongly urge for a revolution from within the labour party. Where are the all the good people gone….
most of the good people are gone at the will of newham labour part,y only a handful remain who are quite good at what they do, however i am glad to see that some who have been suppressed for years are spreading their wings and heading for other places which wont leave too many straight talking members left here ,its unfortunate that lots of the new faces are just there to make up the numbers instead of bringing something to the counci, its better for the hierarchy to have sheep or yes men than self thinking members who work for the voters who put them in. i just read a whole lot of rubbish regarding lobo loans at full council last week ,it seems that its easy to blame the government for this years cuts of 50 million rather that the crazy interest rates that are being paid back annually around 40 million .why national audit have not looked into the way the council is running its finances is beyond me and why the chief executive and the finance team have not been sacked is also a mystery , the london labour party should look into how the council chief whip operates, is he playing by the rules ?and has he overstayed his welcome .i agree with you mikael we the people of the borough should go for a referendum on mayor or leader and a vote of no confidence in the council as is .power to the people .
Is Newham Labour Party being hijacked by Ex-Respect Councillors (Cllr Forhad Hussain, Cllr Hanif AbdulMuhit, Cllr Salim Patel, Cllr Maz Patel, Cllr Idris Ibrahim, Cllr Tahmina Rahman, Asif Karim, Aisha Siddiquah) through Cllr Ken Clark (Cabinet Member for Building Communities and Regeneration) who wants to become the Mayor of Newham with Ex-Respect Councillor, Cllr Forhad Hussain being the deputy Mayor.
Only become yes man of Robin Wales you can have any post you want in council and if you have difference of openion you will be suspended.
