Co-op commotion

21 Jul

West Ham councillor John Gray has blogged about the re-run of the Newham Co-operative Party AGM earlier in the week.

The re-run was “due to ‘irregularities’ at the AGM in January.” I understand that these were far more serious than the ‘voter guidance’ I blogged about at the time and as a consequence the meeting was chaired by officials from party HQ.

Despite the apparent success of the meeting itself, Cllr Gray’s account ends on a sour note:

The evening was marred by the abusive and threatening behavior outside the meeting by one Co-op member towards another, which I will be bringing to the attention of Party officials. Such behaviours are not acceptable in the Co-op Party or any other progressive organisation.

The perpetrator is not named, but his identity will be easily guessed by anyone who takes an interest in Newham politics. Thin-skinned, short-tempered and given to outbursts of foul-mouthed abuse towards those he thinks are plotting against him?

Another clue, appropriately enough given the outcome of the meeting: surname rhymes with ‘fails’.

Is it a champagne socialist, from Kilmarnock, who bullys women, buys loyalty and votes from Labour party members.

This is what happened after the co-op

Is there anyone at region to hear the complaint? First stop used to be Ken Clark who seemed to ignore complaints, or certainly did when I made one. He is, of course, now an extremely well paid member of Cabinet. The Labour Party is in such dissaray it is difficult to see how any complaint will be properly handled.

You’ve missed a key point, Birdman.
Labour staff aren’t going to investigate the internal affairs of the sister Co-operative Party.
Co-operative Party committees and national staff already have done that.
Hence the presence of the London Chair, the London Secretary and the national membership Officer of the Co-operative Party at the re-run Newham Branch AGM, keeping the meeting to the rules.

My assumption was that Cllr Gray would make a complaint about a fellow member of the Labour Party to regional Labour Party officials. It will be interesting to learn who he has made the complaint to and how it will be handled.

Ken Clarke the rumpelstiltskin of the Labour Party in Newham, his appointment to Newham politics has been a masterstroke by Wales. When has any Newham cabinet councillors been done for any misdemeanors. Wales bullying of The Focus E15 girls, Corbetts bullying of council staff, Ahmed Noor, to name the few politics in Newham is a joke like the jokers running the council.

none of this ever gets any airtime apart from bland recorder stories and blogs like this ,suppose no average resident or member cares anyway ,we are only a few who care that the council has such misfits elected to represent us and bring us into disrepute .i get to meet other borough members across london and they laugh at newham such a shame because there are some good people here who are tarred with the same brush .how do the councillors like noor still remain in position after the abuse they are accused of is proved again and again .
